Finding the perfect style is an incredible feeling—whether it’s the bouncy waves of the Baylor WhisperLite® Wig or the chic, polished look of a classic bob. But once you’ve found “the one,” the goal is to keep it looking as fresh and vibrant as the day it arrived.
Synthetic wigs, especially those made with our exclusive WhisperLite® fibers, are designed for ease, but they still need a little T.L.C. to maintain their “just-out-of-the-box” luster.
1. Give it a “Wake Up” Shake
When you first receive your wig, it might have what we call “cold set” from being in the box. Before putting it on, give it a gentle shake! This loosens the fibers and lets the style breathe. For extra volume, you can lightly mist it with water to help the PermaLift technology do its magic.
2. Use the Right Tools
Never use a standard hairbrush on synthetic fibers! Regular brushes can stretch and damage the strands. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb or a specialized wig brush. Always start detangling from the ends and work your way up to the crown to prevent breakage.
3. Master the Wash
You don’t need to wash your wig every day. Generally, every 6 to 8 wears is plenty. Use cool water and a mild shampoo specifically formulated for synthetic hair. Avoid rubbing or wringing the hair; instead, soak it gently and let it air dry on a wig stand to maintain the cap construction shape.
4. Beat the Heat
Unless your wig is made of VersaFiber®, keep it away from heat sources. This includes blow dryers, curling irons, and even the heat from an open oven! High heat can permanently frizz or melt synthetic fibers.
5. Store it Safely
When you aren’t wearing your wig, store it on a wig stand or a mannequin head. This keeps the style from becoming flattened and prevents tangles. If you’re traveling, a clean silk bag is a great way to keep your hairpiece protected on the go.
